The peak harvest season for organic early-ripening Satsuma mandarins is here!
While summer sunburn and persistently high temperatures since September slightly delayed ripening, at Kikuchi Farm in Yahatahama City—free from chemical pesticides, fertilizers, preservatives, and herbicides—the fruit is plump, and the plants are truly vigorous and lush!
Amazingly, they can be harvested right off the branch! The reason is the alternate-bearing system: half the tree bears fruit one year, then the other half the next. After harvesting the nutrient-rich fruit, those branches are pruned. This method improves efficiency and enhances flavor. Eating them whole, peel and all, is a great way to hydrate—the balance of sweetness, tartness, and umami is outstanding! 👍
Early-ripening mandarin varieties include Miyagawa Soh and Taguchi Soh, among others, with an expected harvest of 10 tons per variety!

有機の早生温州ミカン収穫がピークを迎えています!
夏場の日差しによる日焼けや9月以降も続いた高気温で色づきが多少遅れたようですが、化学農薬、化学肥料、防腐剤、除草剤など不使用の八幡浜市・菊池農園では、玉太りもさることながら草木がホンと元気で瑞々しいです!
収穫は何と枝ごと収穫しても大丈夫!その理由は主幹別隔年交互結実方式、つまり木の半分に実をならせ、栄養価が集中した実を収穫後にその枝を伐採、隔年で交互に実をならせる方式なんですね。
その方が効率も良くなり美味しさを増すそうです。
水分補給代わりに皮ごと食べても甘味と酸味と旨味のバランスが抜群ですよ👍。
早生みかんの品種は宮川早生、田口早生など様々、品種ごとで10トン収穫を見込んでいます!
