Orange Day was conceived by citrus farmers in Ehime Prefecture in 1994 and established as a day of commemoration by the Ehime Prefectural Headquarters of the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives (JA-Zenno-Ehime) in 2009. Since February 4th, heavy snowfall has kept citrus farmers in the mountains busy with a race to harvest. They’re working hard to prevent damage from the snow, which can break tree branches, weigh them down, or cause them to freeze if buried under the snow.
